Digital Storytelling and Apples iMovie

For the collabrative technology project my team and I want to make possible an iMovie. Today while searching I found this directory of additional digital story resources from the University of Houston College of Education I mentioned in my very first posting on Digital Storytelling. Did I mention I love that site. That led me to this site about iMovies in Education. Today I tried my hand at the opening title to the iMovie about the Sistine Chapel project. I worked with 3 fifth grade students who seemed more interested in producing a PowerPoint presentation on this project. Who knows maybe we will do both. I must say that they are very motivated about digitilizing this project and so am I.

That is agreat idea. Last month I went to a workshop and they showed some examples from different schools. There was one with the kids interviewing people from other countries which was really nice . I know you will do well at this.Good luck!

iMovie is great and it is easy to use. Once you use iMovie you can import the movie into GarageBand and then lay tracks to play under the sound already in the video. At my school we are part of the American Ballroom Theater (MadHot Ballroom movie)and I work with the kids to get them ready for competition. They have just taken Gold in 3 separate preliminary rounds and are going to the Grand Finals this Saturday. My husband, Just made an imovie of the kids during their last competition and we will probably do the finals too. I have already used it as an instructional video for them so they could find their mistakes, plus they have never seen themselves dance before. It was great! They loved seeing the title with their names written as an overlay in the movie. It will be wonderful to use iMovie next year and have students create their own, we'll make Spielbergs out of them one way or another.
Have fun with your iMovies.

First off that is amazing that your students are involved in Ball Room dancing. I would love to see them in action. How were you able to get that program in your school?
Margie you always bring it to the next level. I am in awe of all your talents and it runs in the family. If I have any questions I hope I can turn to you.

Robin,
Thanks for your compliment...
Well, to update you on my Ballroom program, we did not win the final trophy, we came in second. My kids gave it their all, I am very proud of them. The program is called Dancing Classrooms, you can find them on the web at:
www.americanballroomtheater.com
I believe their is a wait list now, but if you think your school would be interested, give them a call.
When we go for the residency I will show the video, if you like.
AND, of course, ask me anything, if I can help, I will.

HI Margie,

Although it is not first place second place is still something that you and your students should be proud of. I definetly want to see the video at residency. Trust me I have many questions to ask.

Thanks for sharing the information and website with me. I want to see if my principal would like to sign on even if we have to waitlist. She is a huge fan of the arts. We have a band, chorus and are partnered with the NY Philanharmonic. The 6 classes that participate just had their recital on Thursday. The more our students are exposed to all the arts has to offer the better for them. It is not just about passing tests but being exposed to all that the world has to offer.

Hi Margie,Even though your students didn't win the ball room dancing , they are all winneres because ballroom dancing takes so much effort and discipline. Ever watched -so you think you can dance-beautiful! so you are a winner anyhow!

Dear Robin,
I still want to see the Madhot Ballroom movie. Could I see your imovie at the residency? Your project sounds very interesting. (I'm certain that the children dance better than I do!) By you showing them how they dance, it's just like when sports coaches tape their teams play to help them plan. It' fabulous!
